Aas a Film major, I find that one of my creative specialties is makeup and costuming, a passion that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Fashion and performance were constants in my childhood—my mom designed costumes for the many musicals my siblings and I performed in, so I grew up backstage, surrounded by fabrics, fittings, and quick changes. That early love of visual storytelling through clothing and makeup has found its way back into my life through film. I’ve since worked on makeup and costuming for two student films, Jack O Jungle Juice and Flowers Only Bloom in Winter, where I’ve been able to combine my lifelong passion for fashion with cinematic storytelling.
Every year Loyola University Chicago produces three collaborative student short films. Students submit scripts which are picked by a panel of judges, who then pick a director-producer duo to produce the film. This year, myself and my producer, Nate Jimenez, have been chosen to produce "Friday Night", a short rom-com film about a quirky girl sent on a first date that ends terribly. Set to come out next spring, being the director of this film has been the greatest learning experience. I have turned this film from an idea, to a product. From managing the script, the crew, the equipment, the location, the budget, the editing, the filming and so much more, this body of work has become my magnum opus of my college years.
